People of Seer: Meet Teresa Lopez

Welcome back to People of Seer: Remote Edition! In this series, you’ll get to meet our team and learn about what makes them the best around (in our humble opinion).

💡 Teresa Lopez, Senior Lead, Consumer Insights, Clay Thrower and Mentor

How did you end up working at Seer?

I interviewed for an internship as I was graduating and ended up being offered a full-time role as I already had experience. That was 10 years ago now, which is wild!

Ten years! That’s amazing and somewhat rare at agencies these days, what has kept you at Seer?

I think the beauty of Seer is that while we do have processes and a lot of things formed, there is also this trust and openness from leadership to the broader team that allows us to get involved and be a part of evolving this company. If there is a gap and we have the skills to figure it out ourselves we are afforded the opportunity to do that.

I think that’s been one of the main reasons why I continue to stay at Seer and grow my career here. Every time I’ve seen an opportunity or there’s an area where I think we could grow as a company, I’ve been afforded the trust to be a part of the solution and get involved. That’s been instrumental in my growth and personal fulfillment.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?

Running outside, reading, throwing clay on the pottery wheel, and mentoring!

Where do you live? What should we not miss in your city if we come to visit?

Baltimore! It gets a rough rep, but the vibe here is so close to Philly: authentic, charming, and, yeah, gritty. I’d always recommend folks to get crabs–it takes a good amount of time to pick through them, but that’s a feature, not a bug. It’s a slow dinner with long conversations with friends & family.

How would you describe what you do for your job? What’s a day-in-the-life look like?

Hmm, I’m a problem-solver, a detective, and an architect rolled into one.

My title is Sr. Lead of Consumer Insights, so a lot of what I do is getting to the bottom of our clients’ customers, their perspectives, and their behaviors. I help team members work through client problems and challenges.

However, I also spend a good portion of my time working internally with the Seer team and our operations. That’s where the architect part comes in, in terms of understanding where we are and what we need to build to get to our future objectives, whether that is updated processes, documentation, or different services.

What is your perfect weekend day? Describe what you would do and who you would be doing it with!

In this world I set the rules, so travel defies space/time.

I’d wake up early, go for a run in perfectly temperate and sunny weather. I’d go home to shower, then have a delicious brunch ordered in to eat with my husband. Then I’d take a couch nap, maybe falling asleep after doing a little reading. Then, magically, I’m transported to a new city I’ve always wanted to visit and spend the afternoon exporing. For dinner, I’d do an outfit change, then go to dinner with my husband and friends where we can magically all have a conversation that’s not chaotic at all. We’d sit there for hours to talk and joke with no waiter displeased at us for overstaying our welcome 🙂

What is your favorite part of your Seer career that isn’t part of your job description?

It might sound cheesy but it’s true – Meeting so many caring, smart, and thoughtful people. From close friends to folks I only see on big community Zoom meetings, our culture has brought together a great group of people that I’m grateful to work with.

How would you explain what it is like working at Seer to an alien? What are the culture, people, and work like?

Imagine if the people who took the lead on group projects (assuming there’s an alien college somewhere) all worked at the same place, but were collaborative and kind, not maniacally competitive.

You are stranded on a desert island – what are the three things you bring?

Some emergency phone that I can use to call for help to get me outta there, a sunscreen/bug spray hybrid product, and a podcast to hold me over while rescue crews are on their way

Favorite quote or piece of advice?

I’ve always loved the following line from “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”

And miles to go before I sleep.

Check out the data only we can give you on what make Seer a great place to work (in addition to Teresa, of course!).
