Let's face it – you can shop anywhere, even India, for a website design firm. So why would you look for a local website designer? Let's say you live in Dallas / Ft. Worth suburb like Cedar Hill, Texas. The better grocery stores in the area are beginning to label food "locally grown" and "grown in the US" so a trend can be seen. It's obvious that the businesses in Cedar Hill would like everyone to support local business. And is not that the mantra our parents recited when we wanted to drive off with our (or their) money? Turns out it's still a solid idea. But with your website out there for the world to see, and competition for your products and services so fierce, you really do want a website design company that is good if not excellent with website design, logo design, brand development, social media integration, search engine optimization, mobile applications – everything that translates into better business for you.

Most businesses and organizations do want to bring prosperity to the area where they live simply because they, and their friends and family, live there. So, they do their first search for website design in their local or metro area. Oftentimes they find a very good website design firm. Fortunately, for the people in Cedar Hill, TX, web design in their city is top-notch. More Cabbage Marketing, Design and Technology, previously a Los Angeles and Dallas / Ft. Worth website design company, has moved to Cedar Hill. Of course they're convenient to anyone, anywhere, as that's the nature of the internet. But for this family-oriented company, serving as web designer for Cedar Hill, TX and the Dallas / Ft. Worth Metplex is especially pleasant.

Now, what can your local website designer do for you? It does not matter if your business is small or large, if you have not updated your website in three or four years, the site could easily be losing effectiveness. The internet public is notorious impatient and they'll 'move your site quickly if it is not easy to navigate or if the information is not expertly presented. Logo design and brand development are very effective ways to keep your products or services in people's minds, and something of a necessity if you plan to use the social networks to improve your visibility. And there's always a concern about ranking – where do you rank when customers search for your product or service using Google, Bing or Yahoo? If your website shows up anywhere after the first few pages, you may want to visit http://www.MoreCabbage.com and read about search engine optimization. And finally, what will customers see if they try to access your site using their iPhone? Are you ready for the future?

The More Cabbage website says, "There's a time to plant and a time to harvest (and a lot of sweaty work in-between)." Anyone who has built a business knows the truth of that statement. Great website design and internet marketing can really help shorten the distance between the planting and the harvesting. So if you're "local-minded" and you're looking for a website designer, just remember that you want a great harvest, with more cage.

Is it website design or web site design? That's a very good question. And it is a question I've been thinking about a lot lately. I've searched it. I've looked it up in the online dictionaries. I've read blogs on the subject. What exactly is the correct use of website … or web site? Here is what I've found.

Wipikedia.com and Dictionary.com suggest both "website" and "web site" as correct spelling options. The American Heritage Dictionary (dictionary.com) provided the following definition and usage note to my query:

web · site or web site – (n) A set of interconnected webpages, usually including a homepage, generally located on the same server, and prepared and maintained as a collection of information by a person, group, or organization.

"Usage Note: The transition from the World Wide Web site to Web site to website as a single uncapitalized word mirrors the development of other technological expressions which have tended to take unhyphenated forms as they become more familiar. -mail and e-mail, especially in texts that are more technologically oriented. "Similarly, there is an increasing preference for closed forms like homepage, online, and printout."

I then went to search engine king, Google, to do a little hands-on research. The new tool Google trends revealed that the one word version of website, website design, or website designer was used twice as often as the two word version of web site, web site design, or web site designer. When performing a search on Google for the two word version "web site designer", Google will ask "did you mean website designer" (one word). However, when you search for the single word version "website designer", you are not asked if you mean "web site designer". Interesting, do not you think?

Using a popular search engine optimization tool, I received very similar results. A search for website design is searched for more than twice as many times as its two-word counterpart web site design. Surprisingly, this test also showed that a simplified version "web design" was used as a search query FOUR TIMES as often as the two word "web site design".

The Chicago Manual of Style Online recognizes that a lot of people are writing and prefer the one word version "website" for informal and friendly writing. However, they recommend the two word version "web site" in more formal writing and usage, in recognition of the initiations of the World Wide Web Consortium.

Upon using the Microsoft Word spell checker on this document, I was surprised to find that it picks up a "web site" as a misspelled word. It's suggested correct spelling? You guessed it – "website" as a single word.

It seems it really comes down to personal preference. As a web designer , I like to use the single word version "website". Not only is it the current trend, but since I consider myself to be quite casual in style, both on-line and in person, it seems more appropriate. However, I think I'll do some search engine optimization of my own and incorporate the phrase "web design" more often in my own work.

To define the term Social Media Marketing let's first analyze the definition of each word that makes up the term itself.

The word 'social' implies that communication is occurring between two parties and the term 'media' is simply the platform or method by which people are 'doing' social. And 'marketing' is the act of promoting products and services that lead to sales opportunities.

To summarize, Social Media Marketing is the process of promoting people, brands, products or services using Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn.

While the principles of marketing remain, the strategies and psychology of marketing on each platform can be vastly different.

From a business perspective, each Social Media website serves one or more purposes as a marketing medium, the use of which depends on the target market you wish to communicate with (and sell to).

Let's look at each of these platforms individually …

Facebook

Facebook, the most popular of the Social Media websites has essentially two sides. Firstly, from a purely social perspective, it allow any individual to join and find, connect and communicate with anyone they choose, whether they are existing friends, school or university colleagues, family members, work collections and more.

The second side to Facebook is the business side. Facebook allows the creation of a 'Facebook Page' to anyone, but for business owners, they represent an opportunity to promote their products and services.

A Facebook Page is now an essential marketing tool for businesses of all shapes and sizes. They allow businesses the ability to attract 'fans' (past, present or future customers) as well as interact with these fans on the Facebook Page itself, primarily on the 'Wall' page.

A Facebook Page has multiple pages just like a normal business website would. The default pages contained within a brand new Facebook Page are; Wall, Info, Photos.

Business owners can also setup advertising within Facebook to drive visitors to the business's Facebook Page as a way of attracting more customers.

Twitter

Twitter is what's known as a 'Micro-Blog'. Micro meaning small and a Blog is like a news-feed containing information about a person, company, topic, industry etc., etc.

Twitter allows you to 'post' information of 140 characters in length about anything you wish. While it's true purpose is unknown it serves as a broadcast medium for businesses, individuals, celebrities or anyone who wants to voice their option or expertise about any subject they choose.

YouTube

YouTube is a video sharing website and due to its popularity and vast resource of information on just about any topic you can imagine, has become the second largest search engine (after Google). This means that people use YouTube to search for video content about any topic they wish to search for. It's no doubt that online video one of the primary ways our society uses as a way to communicate, learn, share and engage with others.

YouTube allows anyone the ability to upload a video of their choosing onto their own YouTube account for public or private viewing.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn serves two purposes. The first, it's a way for job seekers (or employers) to connect with each other.

Secondly, it's a business tool that allows business owners the ability to connect with and build a 'network' of contacts. Thinking of it like a business networking group, located online.

You can use LinkedIn to be introduced to someone via an existing contact in your network. It can be a powerful tool if your business is B2B.

Your choice of Social Media platform to choose to market yourself, your company or your products and services should be dictated by the type of customer you wish to connect with as well as the type of engagement and interaction you wish to have with the person.

Magento platform has been adopted by more than 180 000 online retailers and ran on 11% of the top 10K sites in the Quantcast data (BuiltWith Trends, 2013).

Magento Community Edition (Magento CE) is the free version of Magento, which is known as a platform built on open-source technology and provides online merchants with unpresented flexibility and control over the look, content and functionality of their e-commerce store.

At the present time, Magento CE has been considered to be one of the best free e-commerce platforms. Thus, in this article, I would like to give you an overview about the pros and cons of this platform.

Advantages of the Magento Community Edition

1. Open Source

Despite of being a free platform, Magento CE is open source. It gives users opportunity to freely modify the code to fit individuals' needs, which brings ultimate flexibility to adopt your business. This is a huge advantage compared to other e-Commerce platforms.

2. Wide range of functionalities

Magento is famous for the number of functionalities it provides. Most of users considering choosing Magento CE for their e-store because of this reason. Magento covers all of the aspects any store owners may insist on (site design, products, payments, shipping and more), so it is a good base to start with. In addition, the platform is evolving all the time and there are countless Magento templates, themes as well as Magento extensions, plugins, and widgets available on the market.

It's interesting how the script allows for running multiple stores at one time from one administration panel. Another example of Magneto's extra capabilities is the ability to set a template for a given product that will make this product to present to a client differently than other products at the same time period.

3. Community

Magento has a growing community of passionate and dedicated developers, users, and providers. So what do you benefit from this? Please note that Magento CE is a free edition, so the support from Magento's technical team is quite limited. Users help each other by sharing knowledge and experience on forums, blogs all over the world. Let's image that the answers for common problems are easily accessible and help is on hand no matter how bespoke your requirements are.

Disadvantages of the Magento Community Edition

1. The usage of PHP

A big drawback of Magento is the usage of PHP. The Magento application can consume gigabytes of RAM during heavy processes, and PHP often can not handle the load, regardless of how much hardware is thrown at it.

2. Not for amateurs

This platform is quite complex so it is not the solution for a beginner with no technical skills. Even an experienced developer will need quite time to learn Magento step by step before being certified. Magento is designed as an enterprise Java application, but its codebase is written in PHP. Thus, if you are not familiar with Java or PHP Zend Framework, it takes months to learn and use this platform. To be honest, finding a qualified Magento developer is not an easy task.

3. Magento Community edition versus Magento Enterprise edition

There are some differences between the paid and the free editions of Magento: Marketing is the strong base in Magento Community design, but the design of Magento Enterprise focuses more on technical aspects than on marketing aspect. Beside, the support for code and additional plug-ins / modules are not the same. Firstly, the Enterprise edition comes with a warranty and service level agreement, legal protection and all fixes to the code will be made first in it. Secondly, some useful additional features are only available in the Enterprise edition such as private sales, access to back-end and store credit functions.

So, do you think Magento CE is a suitable platform to build your own store?

I hope that this article gives you an insight into the Magento Community edition and is helpful for you in choosing a proper platform. If you have used Magento or others, share with us your experience!

There are certain qualities that are common among the best web design agencies. Whether you are looking for an agency to make a web site for you, or you are thinking about starting a web design agency of your own, you should pay close attention to these qualities. They could mean the difference between a successful experience and a poor experience. Of course, you only need to really deeply analyze agencies the first time you hire one. After that, you can go back to the same one you used before, since you already know what they are like, and have developed personal relationships.

First of all, a good web design agency should have a large array of previous work that they have done. They should also make it clear on their web site. Going to their site, you should see a huge list of web sites – real, commercial web sites that are currently in use. You can quickly click on all of these and browse through the work that the agency has done in the past. Not only should there be a lot of different sites, but each one should be unique. This shows that the agency has the ability to make diverse sites that truly reflect the company that they represent, rather than just cookie-cutter sites.

The diversity of the web sites reflects another positive quality of your designer, and that is the fact that they really communicate well with their clients. They get hired by a business, and they make every possible effort to find out exactly what the business stands for, and what they wish to accomplish with their web site. This becomes obvious when you see the final product. If possible, you should find feedback of the particular agency, and see if their previous clients mention anything about their cooperativeness, or their ability to work with the company to create a better site.

All of these qualities point to the overall ability of a web design agency to create a web site that satisfies the customers desires, as well as sell whatever product or service the company is offering. So if you are starting a web design agency, do everything you can to strive towards these ideas. And if you are looking for a web design agency to make a web site for your company, be sure to consider all of these factors when considering each prospect.

What is Search Engine Optimization?

Search Engine Optimization, which is also known as SEO, is the process of increasing the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via organic or search results. The higher your company's website ranks on Search Engine Result Page (SERP), the more visitors will visit your site.

As a marketing strategy for increasing site's relevancy, SEO consultants consider how search algorithms work and what people search for. A SEO process may involve a site's coding and structure, content and copywriting, site presentation, as well as fixing other problems that will prevent search engines from indexing your company website. If your company's website is not indexed by search engines, there will be no chance at all for your site to get high visibility rankings on search engines. Therefore, it is extremely important for businesses to take note of SEO and make sure that their websites are properly indexed by search engines.

The term "SEO" can also refer to "Search Engine Optimizer". This is an industry term that reflects to agencies and consultants that carry out search engine optimization process on behalf of their clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Every agency and consultant has their own SEO methodology; therefore they may use different methods to achieve high organic rankings for websites. In most cases, in order to have effective SEO, it may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics will be incorporated into website development and design. That is why almost all SEO SEO agencies and consultants will first look at the design and back-end architecture of a website before starting any SEO process. This will ensure that SEO is carried out out effectively.

Search Engine Optimization as a Marketing Strategy for Businesses

So how should businesses use SEO as a marketing strategy? The primary objective of implementing SEO to a company's website is to drive targeted traffic to it. Eye tracking studies have shown that searchers scan a search result from top to bottom and left to right, looking for relevant results. Therefore, if your site is near the top of organic listings (organic listings refer to the web results that are listed on the left hand side of the SERP), it will most likely increase the number of searchers who will visit your site.

A successful online marketing campaign may actually involve SEO, but it also consists of the use of paid advertising on search engines, building high quality websites to engage and facilitate site visitors take action either through inquiries or online sales, setting up analytical programs to allow site owners to measure their successes and improving a site's conversion rate.

Benefits of SEO for Businesses

Businesses can benefit from SEO in a lot of ways, be it to increase brand awareness, get sales leads or increase sales revenue. The following is a list of benefits that businesses can get from SEO:

o Get more targeted traffic. SEO can increase the number of visitors to your site who are actively searching for your product or service.

o Increase brand awareness. SEO can give your brand a high international profile. You can also use SEO to create brand awareness for any new service or product by optimizing related product / service key phrases to rank higher on search engines.

o Marketing your brand 24/7. With SEO, your website will get exposure 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – without stopping.

o Higher sales. As SEO brings you targeted traffic, it can mean increased sales of your product or service.

o Long term positioning. Once a properly optimized & designed site is in place, rankings on organic listings should be consistent where the cost for Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising is ongoing.

o More value for dollars. Once your company's website has achieved high organic rankings for various key phrases, you will not have to pay for each visit. Whereas for PPC Advertising, to enjoy high ranking visibility on search engines, you need to pay for each click or visit to your site.

However, to make sure that you have a successful SEO implementation, you need to make sure that your dedicated SEO agency abides to the guidelines of search engine when optimizing your site …

White Hat SEO VS Black Hat SEO

When it comes to SEO, there are 2 schools of thought – White Hat SEO vs Black Hat SEO. White hat SEO is techniques that search engines recommend as good practice and black hat SEO is those techniques that search engines do not approve of. For SEO consultants who practice white hat SEO, they tend to produce results that last a long time. Black hat SEO techniques may get a website to rank well initially, but the site will always be banned either temporarily or permanently once search engines discover what they are doing.

So it is very important for you to know the best practices in the SEO industry and make sure that the SEO agency that is handling your account uses techniques that conform to the search engines' guidelines and obligations no deception.

White hat technique is generally summed up as creating content for users, not the search engines. The content that is created should be easily accessible to search engine spiders, rather than intending to trick the algorithms from its intended purpose. So, the general rule of thumb is to stay on the safe side by creating content that is relevant to your target audience. Search engines value relevancy – they will definitely want to rank a site higher their organic listings if the content on the site is what searchers are looking for.

Black hat technique usually involves techniques that attempt to improve rankings that are disapproved by search engines, or involve deception. One common black hat technique is to use hidden text, either as text colored similar to the background of the website, or positioned off-screen. Another common technique known as cloaking is to load a different page depending on whether the page is accessed by a human or a search engine spider.

Search engines will penalize sites which use black hat techniques, either by reducing their organic rankings or even eliminating them from their database completely. This is a very costly mistake on the business point of view as you will lose out a lot of grounds as your competitors are enjoying free organic traffic from search engines due to their high rankings for major key phrases. One infamous example was in February 2006, whereby Google removed BMW Germany from its database for use of black hat methods. However, the company has quickly apologized and cleaned up the offending pages and were historically restored to Google's database.

Therefore, it is very important to make sure that your SEO agency is moving away from black hat methods. You will not want to be blacklisted by search engines which will translate into loss in sales and profits.

Keyword Research – The Key Factor to Successful SEO Implementation

Major search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN Live and AOL get a lot of searches every day. Before you implement SEO to your website, you must know what key phrases or keywords your target audience is using to search for the product or service that you offer.

Whether you like it or not, there is a good chance that many people have never heard of your company. These people might be your customers, if only they can find you on search engines and buying from you. It is well accepted that building awareness is the first step to land a new customer. For example, when someone sees a TV advertisement about that new car, you hope that he or she is in the market for a car at the moment. However, relatively few people are in that situation at any one time. Majority of people who saw the TV advertisement have no interest in buying a car at the moment. But someday they will. So advertisers know that the messages – the model of the car and company name in their commercials will stick in viewers' minds, who may remember the message later when they are ready to buy a car. It is the same for SEO.

Searchers may not know that your company offers a particular product or service service unless they see your site listed on the Search Engine Result Page (SERP). Unless they see your listings, they will not think of you. Most of the time, searchers looking for a product or service for the first time may not be aware of any specific company or brand name as they are just gathering information. However, according to a research done by search marketing consultancy iProspect, more than 55 percent of viewers expect to see big brands listed at the top of search results. The same study also shows that over 66 percent of seekers believe that sites that are listed at the top of search results are the top companies in their field. So can you imagine how this affects your company's brand awareness? If your company's website is not listed at the top of search results, they will not see your company as a "big brand" in their mind. Therefore, it is extremely important for you to optimize keywords or key phrases that your target prospects will use to find the product or service that you are offering.

So what types of keywords or key phrases should you choose? Businesses should target keywords that are relevant to the content of their websites. Basically, keywords can be categorized into 3 types, which are: "Too Hot Keywords", "Just Right Keywords", and "Too Cold Keywords". Too Hot keywords are single word search terms like "Aircon" and "Translation" which do not seem to be targeted enough to get conversions. These keywords typically bring in high search volume (which is naturally tempting to optimize) but the conversion may not be as ideal as targeting keywords which falls into the "Just Right" category. (For examples: Aircon Servicing, Translation Agency Singapore ") By optimizing those" Just Right "keywords, businesses can get more targeted traffic to their websites and increase the chance of conversions.

Choosing the right keywords is the real beginning of any SEO effort. After you have determined the right set of keywords to target, you can start the work of search engine optimization.

Why do you need to outsource SEO?

SEO is a very time-consuming process as continuous fine-tuning and monitoring need to be done. Therefore, it is advisable for you to hire a search engine optimization agency to plan out the optimization plan for your company.

A professional SEO agency will look at your site and make recommendations to increase your search engine ranking and website traffic. Once they start to optimize your website, they will provide recommendations and monitoring reports for you to know the progress of it.

Last but not least, in order to achieve successful optimization results, it is very important for your SEO agency to work closely with your website designer if you have your own IT department. This is because your company website needs to be both visually appealing and search engine friendly in order to achieve high organic rankings, as well as conversions.
