One amazing fact about social media marketing is that markets and brands can move and scale with incredible speed. Most social media brands are created to position and market a particular product.  The scale of the market makes it evolve and reposition. Think of the car industry of years back: two great giants of this era were Henry Ford of the Ford Motor Company and Billy Durant who created General Motors. Both understood that the original market would depend upon low price. Durant also felt that the low price should also have variant brands to target different groups. Henry thought that price was the key and he created a world class brand in the Model T. For a time, Henry’s bet was the correct one.

The market evolved over time. As the decade of the 1910’s progressed a middle class developed. With more resources available, people began to want more than just a low price in a car. The variance of income created different targets for the car. This created the necessity for the car to be branded in different ways. Luckily, for GM, Billy Durant had created these different brands. In the General Motors model, Chevy was the entry level for low-income people. Pontiac was the next level. This is for people who start a job and start receiving early career promotions. For the mature mid-career there is the Oldsmobile. For those people know on the fast track there is the Buick. Finally, for the people who have made it, there is the Cadillac.

I think the GM model is the model that modern social marketing should follow. Different income groups define their products in a different manner. The brands help them define themselves. This is the beginning of what is called the “umbrella” brand. This is several brands of the same product, under the roof of one company. It is this strategy that allowed General Motors to overcome a seemingly insurmountable lead by Ford in the 1920’s to become the pre-eminent brand in cars. What are the benefits to having an umbrella brand in relation to having just one big brand like the Model T.

As in the case of General Motors, a big benefit is MARKET GROWTH. There is strength in numbers. With many brands, like the GM family, there is constant engagement with the General Motors brand, instead of the singular General Motors “car”. As in the GM case, no one brand can control the entire market. This is the genius of Albert Sloan. It was Albert Sloan that has taught marketers the importance of targeting, segmenting, differentiation, and branding. This is in clear contrast to Mr. Ford’s assertion that you can have any color you want as long as it is black.

Multi-brands PREVENT BRAND EXTENSION. In 1923, there were many car companies, most with one brand. By having multi-brands, Mr. Sloan was able to consolidate the market and to dissuade the smaller struggling companies not to extend their brand and to get out of the market, allowing General Motors to concentrate on Ford.

Multi-brands PROTECT THE BRAND IMAGE. Everyone knows that Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, Buick, and Cadillac were General Motor brands. Each of the cars contributed to the GM image. Ford’s singular brand in the Model T worked against Ford. Because it had only one brand, Mr. Sloan was able to portray the Model T as a brand “built by farmers for farmers”

In this post, I will explain you how to optimize a webpage by refining page optimization and then I will also explain how to optimize your homepage to maximize the search engine rank. Please keep in mind that all search engines do not index pages in a same manner. Therefore SEO techniques will not promise you maximum output in all search engines.

We do page optimization to make our web page friendlier to search engines. Page optimization guarantees that your web page is functioning in a very easy way that the search engines can understand. I want to reiterate on a fact that I mentioned you in an earlier post. Never try to make your website more search engine friendly which is not much friendly to the visitors. Then your website will look uncomfortable to read and it will not attract visitors. Followings are the main procedures that you must follow to optimize you webpage and home page.

I assume that you have gained knowledge in keyword search from my earlier post here. There I mentioned that, you must find the most suitable key word phrase for each web page. Put the primary keyword in the title of the web page. It means that you have to put the primary keyword in between the tags of the HTML code. The best practice is adding in the first position of the title or closer to the beginning of the title. Without there is a special need to put your website title in each and every web page title, do not put it. If you really want to add your website title and want to promote it as a brand, put it at the end of the page title, after the primary keyword. Always make sure that your page title is shorter.

Some people think that META tags are important in SEO. But actually you do not have to worry about them much as it does not affect your ranking very much. But it is a good practice to add some description about your web page in the META tags. This description will be displayed in the search description of your web page in search engines. I have to mention the same thing regarding the META KEYWORD tag. But you can add Meta keyword tags with your primary keyword phrase, its synonyms and if possible some misspelled phrases of your primary keyword phrase. If you put multiple Meta keyword tags you must separate them with commas.

Keep in mind to add the header as same as your page title key word phrase in

<h1> </ h1> format. This will give more support to emphasize your page title and keyword phrase to the search engine. It is a good practice to use sub headers (in <h2> </ h2> Egypt <h3> </ h3> format) with some description in every paragraph start. Try to do this at least in before few paragraphs' starting. If you can break your content to make sure that they are easy to read (by numbering or using bulleted list), it will look better.

Next is your home page. You must pay a good attention to your home page optimization as it is the first page that visitors will see often. You must put all the WORKING links of other main web pages in your home page. And make sure that it is possible to reach every page through your home page. I do not mean that all the links to the other pages must be put in the home page. Your home page must provide access to all the pages with the help of the intermediate main pages. But you must link all the major category pages to your home page. As I mentioned in the key word search post, you must put the best keyword for your business niche in the home page title. Use META tags and META KEYWORD tags in the home page also. But it is not a necessary thing. This will improve the readability of your website.

Using SEO is one of the best ways to make sure that your website turns up in search engine results because if someone’s looking for a site like yours, you want to make sure they find it. But it’s no good turning up in search engine results if you’re listed on the 100th page, or worse, the 500th page because no one looks at these pages.

At most, people only look at the first 2 or 3 pages.

So how can you make sure that your web pages turn up in these first few pages of results?

It would be easy to think that you need to find the most popular keywords with the highest amount of searches each month…right? Wrong. Doing that would make it almost impossible for you to succeed because there are already thousands of other marketers using them and because their web pages have been up longer than yours, they are already generating a lot of traffic and so their popularity is already m loving them up to the top results spots.

So, to get your web pages showing up on the first pages of search results, here is what you need to do:

Find Long-Tail Keywords

These are words that are more specific to what you’re selling and it’s typically a phrase of 3 or 4 words. For instance, if you’re trying to sell coffee, there’ll be a ton of competition for “Coffee” as a keyword. Instead, try using a more exact phrase like “Organic Costa Rican Whole Bean Coffee” While such exact phrasing will yield fewer searches, they will be more target specific and tailor to people who are probably more likely to make a purchase. Quality over quantity is the name of the game here, kids.

Aim For Moderate to Small Competition

In addition to using long-tail keywords, also look for phrases that have little or even no competition. This will help to make sure that your web page turns up at or near the top of search engine results. For example, if there are only 8 other marketers using your exact phrase and the search engines show 10 results per page, then your page should be on the first page of results.

See What Keywords Your Competition Is Using

It’s always a good idea to check out the competition to see what other keywords they’re using and the content they’re using to attract more customers.

Try using an online tool like SpyFu, or use Google’s free Keyword Planner, which is used with Google’s anything-but-free AdWords platform.

And although you will not get many visitors to your site by using long-tail keywords, it’s far more beneficial to get on the first page in front of a few highly targeted prospects, then to end up on the 100th page of broader search terms, where your potential customers will never see your website link anyway.
